Black with a capital B, has come to be commonly be known as the Afro American born in the United States. The terms African American, Colored, Negro, and even the term Black, were nomers refrenced by others and cast upon us. The term 'Black' is the one term that we have defined for our own selves. Still, it it inclusive of all African descended people. For us, the term "Soulaan" is an act of self-determination. It is our sacred effort to name our own selves. We, who are the descendants of freedmen, once enslaved in the United States of America . At no other time have we named our own culture and ethnicity. We are Soula/Soulaan people, an ethnic group of Americans in the United States.
Of course not. We are descended from African, European, Indigenous, and various other ancestors. We honor our ancestors, and celebrate with the entirety of humanity, including our African descended brothers and sisters around the world!
We are not a monolith. Some of us are passionate gatekeepers of our culture. Some of us are expansive in activities within the African Diaspora. Although many of us are Pan African, many of us also are not necessarily. Our primary goal here is to celebrate the family life and heritage of Soulaan people and its culture. This is ever front of mind in all that we do.
